Easter Dress

Oh my goodness, can I just tell you all how much I love this new pattern!
Colette Patterns hits a home run on my scoreboard.
The Moneta is a simple, but essential wardrobe builder.

I did not make a muslin because I didn’t decide until Friday which dress I would make for Easter.
So, with limited time, I opted to just sew this one up right out of the envelope,
or off the computer as the case may be (I purchased the digital version).

The fit is very good.  I cut a straight size medium, but I added
3″ to the length and 1″ to the sleeve length.
There is, however, one small issue – the front neckline gapes just a bit.
Not a pattern flaw, but a physical body flaw!
That will be an easy adjustment on my next go round.

I already planned to wear this scarf with the dress, before I even sewed it.
So, it all worked out.

A Simple Cotton Blouse

I had this great, lightweight 100% cotton fabric in my stash.
I needed a basic every day blouse to wear with jeans or casual pants.
The pattern is from an old BurdaStyle magazine (8-2008-103).
I also wanted to give my new binder attachment another whirl.
Yay!  No hemming on the sleeves.
The binder attachment worked beautifully.

It’s always good to have simple blouses that can be layered in the winter
and worn simply without layers the rest of the year.
Sometimes I need simple in my life.   🙂
The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul:
the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple.

Renfrew Top and New Sewing Machine Accessory

As we started a new month and a new year, it was with anticipation that I looked to a season of quiet rejuvenation, insulated under a blanket of new-fallen snow.  Stark reality set in, and my protective blanket was ripped from me as cold reality covered my days.
January was busy.  So very busy.

I have so missed you, my blog friends.
It is with sweet joy that I look forward to once again sharing with you
my sewing and handmade endeavors.

To bolster my casual day-to-day wardrobe, another Renfrew top was in order.
This time with a soft, very well-behaved stable stretch knit
that I purchased from A Fashionable Stitch in SLC.
The serene aqua color awakens one’s senses to the season.

It goes without saying that a longer sleeve version was paramount this time of year.
It would be evident that the cowl neckline should be my version of choice.
But instead, I opted for the more versatile scoop neckline.
With that choice, this top is now a three-season wardrobe basic.

The Renfrew ordinarily features a banded hem.
As you can see, that is not a banded hem.
For my December birthday, DH thoughtfully gifted me with a rolled hem attachment.

Words can not express how satisfying it is to use this little time saver.
The underside of the binding looks just as professional as the top side.
In whatever season you happen to be at the moment, my friend, may it be joyous.
“You (God) set all the boundaries of the earth;
you made summer and winter.”
