French Country Cottage Inspired Accent PIllow

Welcome back to my little home on the Web, sewing friends!
I’ve always admired French Country decorating
It’s very difficult to find French Country inspired
fabric and supplies here in Utah

One of our local quilt stores does carry a small amount of French General for Moda
That fabric, neutral fabric, red burlap,
and this great machine embroidery design

came together for a beautiful French Cottage accent pillow

The zipper is hidden up there under the burlap ruffle where the two fabrics meet

This one is up for sale at ANotion2Sew – or –
If you would like to make one of your own,
contact me and I would be pleased to share some tips
on how to insert that zipper so nobody knows it’s there
Have a lovely week and please visit again soon.

Sailing into Mid Summer and a Business Announcement

Hi sewing friends!
Thanks so much for stopping by for a visit
as you enter my front door, this is what greets you (besides me) . . .
a sweet, summer, sailboat, in-the-hoop Kimberbell project
here are a few pointers if you plan to embroider your own summer sailboat:
  • be prepared to spend some time on this one, it is not labor or stitch intensive, it just requires you to remove the hoop from the machine and trim fabric and/or press a number of times
  • the instructions include 82 steps!
  • it doesn’t require much fabric, I used scraps from my stash
Now for my announcement –
I’m a new business owner!!!
Yep, my Etsy shop front will open August 1 under the name ANotion2Sew
I’ve been ever so busy sewing up inventory to stock my shop
I will sell handmade, high-quality home and fashion accessories
along with the patterns and hardware for DIYers
who wish to stitch up their own accessories
And just in time for the Fall season, I have several season-appropriate items
that will be up for sale – all lovingly handmade with care in my home studio

As we sail into August, check back here for the link to ANotion2Sew

just stop by to say hello, I love visitors
If you are an Etsy seller, please share your words of wisdom
Thanks for keeping me company today.

Kindness Matters

I must confess, my new fabric shop love is Shabby Fabrics
I’m a big fan of applique
but I’m not a big fan of cutting

Shabby Fabrics offers pre-fused and laser-cut kits:
you just peel the paper backing off those perfectly cut applique shapes,
place them on your background fabric,
give ’em a press with a medium iron
and your on your way to the sewing machine (or hand needle)
before you know it, your project is ready to quilt and bind
I chose to tackle this one completely with the sewing machine
the only hand stitching was to secure the binding on the back,
which is how I always stitch my binding
the pattern included the ‘kindness matters’ lettering to trace and stitch by hand
since this was my no-hand-stitching project,
I used embroidery software for the lettering and added the Bible scripture reference
then took it to my embroidery machine and stitched it out
thank you, Shabby Fabrics, for the great selection of beautiful fabrics, kits, and notions
and, I might add, for the speeeeedy shipping
my package is usually on my doorstep 2-3 days after I place my order
let me just add, hand stitching has a unique charm all it’s own
I’m a big fan of hand-sewn projects
I’ll be sharing some hand sewing in the future
what about you?
hand stitching vs. machine stitching
have an enjoyable last week of April, my friends
