Serger Ruffled Pillow

Hi sewing friends!
Here’s some serger sewing inspiration for you.
Tula Pink fabric and Anna Maria Horner ribbon
give a contemporary twist to a traditional style pillow.
All the sewing on this pillow was done with my serger
The project video is on Baby Lock’s Love of Sewing member site.
The fabric strips are ruffled using the serger ruffling foot,
then they are sewn down to the base fabric.
The edges of the ruffles are finished with a narrow rolled hem.
A zipper makes for easy washing and switching out of pillow covers.
The cording foot was perfect for a serger sewn zipper,
and binding clips are the perfect substitute to use in place of pins.
Sergers and pins don’t play nice together!
The back side is the perfect canvas to showcase that awesome #tulapink fabric
The only change I made to the pattern was the addition of Spanish hemstitching
to attach the ribbon between the fabric panels.
To do that, I used my Bernina Spanish Hemstitch accessory.
All in all, this was a quick project and it yielded really professional results.
Gotta love those sergers.

Valentine Pillow

Thanks for stopping by, friends
lately I’ve been smitten by the sweet KimberBell designs

this pillow is featured in Oh, the Possibilities…For Winter! (and Valentine’s Day, too!)
if you’re looking for quick projects that also have a bit of detail,
give this one a go
it can be completed in a couple short hours
and if you like applique, this one is for you

I used Floriani applique wonder to back my letters and hearts
that makes them stay in place nicely while I get them stitched down
the applique wonder is a bit heavy, however
so if you plan to applique a project that needs to have a softer ‘hand’
choose a wash-away spray adhesive or a light wonder under product

to stabilize the main fabric behind the the applique,
I ironed on some no-show mesh
it is much more fluid than a traditional stabilizer so my pillow stays soft
you could always choose to hand stitch the applique
but I used a few of the stitches on my sewing machine

no zipper or opening in the back
this one is just stitched to the front, rst, with an opening left for turning
I stuffed it with poly fiberfill and hand stitched the opening closed

I’ve enjoyed our visit
please stop by again soon

Sweet Life with Anna Maria Horner

Welcome, Friends
It’s hard to believe it has been almost a year since
I shared these quilt blocks with you
I did manage to get them stitched together and quilted
even if it did take almost a year
My lovely new quilt now adorns our bed
and makes me smile every time I walk into the room
The Anna Maria Horner fabric
combined with the Sweet Life quilt pattern
is a marriage meant to happen
🙂
I’m still a novice quilter
but I sure do enjoy playing and practicing
I combined some straight line, feathers, and a floral template
for a menagerie of designs
The back is a gold & white all over print
Not only do I find my new quilt
aesthetically pleasing,
it is also incredibly warm
Thank you so much for stopping by
