Serger Ruffled Pillow

Hi sewing friends!
Here’s some serger sewing inspiration for you.
Tula Pink fabric and Anna Maria Horner ribbon
give a contemporary twist to a traditional style pillow.
All the sewing on this pillow was done with my serger
The project video is on Baby Lock’s Love of Sewing member site.
The fabric strips are ruffled using the serger ruffling foot,
then they are sewn down to the base fabric.
The edges of the ruffles are finished with a narrow rolled hem.
A zipper makes for easy washing and switching out of pillow covers.
The cording foot was perfect for a serger sewn zipper,
and binding clips are the perfect substitute to use in place of pins.
Sergers and pins don’t play nice together!
The back side is the perfect canvas to showcase that awesome #tulapink fabric
The only change I made to the pattern was the addition of Spanish hemstitching
to attach the ribbon between the fabric panels.
To do that, I used my Bernina Spanish Hemstitch accessory.
All in all, this was a quick project and it yielded really professional results.
Gotta love those sergers.

Leggings – A Wardrobe Staple

Hello Sewing Friends!
I’m a true legging lover
they are comfortable and
they can be worn in numerous ways
Dress them up with a stylish topper and heels
wear them under a dress or skirt
for added warmth in the winter with boots
for a simple pulled-together look in the summer with sandals
You can make them full length,
cropped,
or bermuda length

Use a ball point double needle or a serger
to achieve the ready-to-wear hem look
and use a ball point (stretch) needle for your seams so they don’t ‘pop’
no extra equipment required
I’m teaching a legging class on March 2 from 1-5 p.m.
at Nuttall’s in Layton
if you are local, won’t you come join us?
You will go home with a new pair of custom sewn leggings

Pattern:  Kwik Sew 3636
Then sit back, relax, and enjoy the sense of accomplishment
from such a short investment of time and effort
Thank you for stopping in to say hello.

Dog Blankets

Hello Sewers!
My friend, Linda, gifted me with a lot of fabric some time ago
A couple of pieces of dog print fleece were among the apparel fabrics
I’m not a huge fan of fleece for myself, but these are great for my two pooches

I finished off the edges using the wave stitch on my Baby Lock Ovation serger
Quite an attractive finish for something that will soon be covered in dog hair and slobber!
It is cold and snowy here today – their new blankets will see lots of use this winter
Don’t forget to keep your furry little friends warm if you are in winter weather right now
Happy serging, friends!
