Colorful Boy Quilt

Using this blog post, I stitched up a quilt top for grandson #1.  The fabric line is VeloCity by Jessica Hogarth for P & B Textiles.  There is a close-up of all those great prints in one of my previous posts.

Now I’m waiting for the Simplicity pattern sale to begin at Hancock Fabrics on Thursday so I can purchase a pattern for a jacket that I’m really excited to get started sewing.  I plan to have my new fall jacket completed next week some time (even though it is still in the 90’s here).  That’s as far as I’ve gotten on my fall sewing plans so far.  Do you have fall/winter sewing plans already, or are you like me, and you procrastinate until the new season is upon us?

Sewing Machine Trading Cards Display

In an earlier post I shared photos of my vintage trading cards.  Sarah and Ashley gave me great suggestions on how to display them.  With their suggestions in mind, here is what I came up with:

I didn’t want to invest a lot of $$$ in purchasing materials for the display, so I went ‘shopping’ around my house and found the supplies I thought might work.  I used an old bulletin board, fabric, extra-large ric rac, chicken wire (thanks to my DD), fabric scrapbook flowers, scrapbook papers, and clear acrylic cards.  The only supplies I purchased were the spray paint and the hooks from which to hang the frames.  I am very pleased with the final product and I plan to post a tutorial in the near future.

Now I must go put a couple small holes in my sewing room wall so I can hang this and give those lovely turn-of-the-century sewing cards the visibility they deserve.  🙂

Civil War Generals’ Wives BOM – Month 8 thru 10 and Future Sewing Plans

Wow!  Has it actually been since April when I posted my last block of the month?  Yes, I was three months behind on these.  I spent part of yesterday catching up since I will be receiving block 11 in about 2 weeks.  So here they are, in chronological order:

Block Eight – Flora Cooke Stuart, wife of General J.E.B. Stuart (CSA)

Block Nine – Maria Louise (Garland) Longstreet, wife of General James Longstreet (CSA)

Block Ten – Frances Caroline ‘Fanny’ Chamberlain, wife of General Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain (US)

Now that I caught up on my BOM, I don’t feel guilty starting another quilt project.  It is difficult to find non-girly fabrics, but I scored this line at my local quilt store.  It is called VeloCity by Jessica Hogarth for P & B Textiles.  To make it even better, the store was having a 30% off entire purchase sale.  I need more masculine fabrics to make a crib quilt for my daughter’s friend who is having a baby boy in a couple months and it is nice to have the fabric on hand because I also have three grandsons.

I’m heading to Hancock Fabrics tomorrow to search out a great fall jacket pattern.  I will also peruse my back issues of BurdaStyle magazine.  I’m anxious to get started on some fall garment sewing.  Do you have plans for any quilts or fall wardrobe pieces?
