A Mid-Winter’s Mini Quilt

Fabric:  “Pretty Potent” by Anna Maria Horner
This bit of sunshine brightens the wall above the antique desk in our living room.
It is one of the first pieces of wall decor to be seen as one enters the room.
My dad was the first of all the family members to notice the new wall art.
He said it just looks like sunshine when he walks in the room.
His comment is particularly special to me because, my dad you see, is dying of brain cancer.
He has a very difficult time expressing his thoughts in words.
If you’ve ever been around a person who has cancerous tumors in his or her brain,
you know that their speech deteriorates almost daily.
He comments every day on how that mini quilt brings the sunshine inside.
Pattern:  Pinwheel Mini Quilt
This one will always be very special to me because of the way it brightens my dad’s last days.
I encourage you, my friends, no matter what season of life you may be in right now,
God will shine on you when you ask His Son into your life.
(Psalm 67:1-3)

A Happy Quilt to Start the New Year

Here’s my finished project for the #haveyourselfaquiltylittlechristmas sew along on Instagram.
Sew very cute!!!
One of my favorite sections is the triple wreaths.
Those 3d bows really make them stand out.
The sew along included a scrappy border, but I went with all white instead.
Feels cold and snowy like our Christmas weather was this year.
I quilted those borders with a chevron pattern.
For the rest of the quilting, I went with a free motion pattern of loops and stars.
Have a very merry New Year, my friends.

Piecing, Quilting, and a Favorite

There’s an eclectic mix of sewing going on around here.
I just jumped onto the IG #haveyourselfamerrylittlechristmas
sew along hosted by @beelori1.
It started earlier this month, so I’m playing catch up, but
the blocks sew up very quickly so I plan to be caught up
with the group in a few days.
It’s not too late if you want to get in on a ‘piece’ of the fun!

I’m also embarking on a quest to fill my bare living room
wall with mini quilts.
Here’s the first one of the bunch, all quilted and hung.
It measures a mere 11″ x 14″.
My second mini quilt is pieced, layered, pinned, and
waiting to be quilted.

 It’s a 24″ x 24″ geometric pinwheel quilt.
See those cute little butterfly pins with the marshmallow-looking ends?

Those are pinmoors, some of my favorite quilting notions.
They are used on the sharp end of the pin to prevent poking yourself.
Blood doesn’t play nice with fabric!  LOL
If you’re tired of pin pokes and fabric pulls,
check out your local quilt shop first, they just might carry them.
If not, just enter pinmoor in your search engine
and you’ll find numerous online retailers from where
you can purchase this great notion.
Have a terrific weekend, my friends.
