Bed Runner

Just wanted to share some progress on a small quilting project that I started this week.  This is from the book Bed Runners Using Precut Fabrics by Kathy Brown.

The title of the pattern is “Serene Strips”.  Mine is anything but serene.  The pattern calls for one jelly roll for the strips and all I had on hand was this Dolce jelly roll by Westminster Fabrics.  This is stepping outside the box for me because my home decor is very neutral, warm tones.  However, I’m working on brightening my guest room somewhat while still keeping a cohesiveness with the rest of the house. I have several changes in mind for that room, so we’ll see. I’ll post before and afters when it is complete.

Obviously the bed runner is not finished.  I’m at a standstill because I just ordered coordinating fabric yesterday for the border, so I must wait until it arrives in the mail before I can finish.

Let’s see now, I’m sure I can find something else to keep me busy until then……

Charm Pack Table Runner

In a desperate effort to usher in something remotely resembling Spring, I made up this quick little table runner.  The weather is sooooo rainy and cold here in Utah.  More fuel to feed the flames of my whining to move back to a warmer climate!  Sorry DH.  Anyway, I love to use charm packs for quick table runners and home dcor.  This is my take on my favorite table runner pattern #376 Tutti-Frutti by  Pieces From My Heart .

I purchased the fabric charm pack (Lovely, by Sandy Gervais) from my favorite online quilt shop, Fat Quarter Shop

I added the yellow crochet flowers and the green applique leaves.  And instead of adding the half-circle border as illustrated on the pattern, I simply used traditional binding (I didn’t have enough of the charm pack squares left for the border).  Here’s a close up of the crocheted flowers.

C’mon Spring, I’m waiting!!!

Diapers on the Go

These are diaper carriers that I made for baby shower gifts.  The pattern is from All My Bags & Quilts Too! (Diapers to Go! #150).  This is a favorite go-to pattern for gifts.  It is quick to make, it only takes about two hours start to finish, and it is also inexpensive as it only requires a small amount of yardage.

The crochet flower is from a previous post.  I made the rhinestone bling paw print with my Silhouette digital die cut machine.  It is design number paw_print_C20091123162012_2581 from the Silhouette online store.

Here’s what the inside looks like.  Diapers are inserted in one pocket and a small package of baby wipes fits in the other.

To attach the binding across the top of the pockets, I fold the binding in half, wrong sides together and press.  Then I attach it to the top of the pocket raw edges together.  I flip the pocket over, pulling the folded and pressed edge of the binding to the back side and sew on the front side using my Bulky Overlock Foot #12C.  Here’s what it looks like as I attach the binding.
